Installing Elixir, Node, and Phoenix

Install Elixir

If you are working on a Mac, the easiest way to install Elixir is with Homebrew.

$ brew install elixir

For other types of installations, you can check out Elixir’s installation page at: http://elixir-lang.org/install.html

Install Node

Node is used by Phoenix for asset compilation. Again, if working on a Mac, the easiest way to install Node is with Homebrew.

$ brew install node

For other types of installations, you can check out Node’s download page at: https://nodejs.org/download/

Install Phoenix

The Phoenix Framework site remains up to date with installation instructions at: http://www.phoenixframework.org/docs/installation

For a typical install you first need to install hex with:

$ mix local.hex

To install Phoenix version 0.17.0 use:

$ mix archive.install https://github.com/phoenixframework/phoenix/releases/download/v0.17.0/phoenix_new-0.17.0.ez
